Contraindications

Contraindications are symptoms/conditions/medications used that prevent me from providing a service to you due to the harm it may cause.

I have contraindications regarding waxing, lash lifts, and tinting below

You must be off these acne medications for at least 10 days

  • Accutane (at least one year off this medication)

  • Adapalene

  • Alustra (Retin A)

  • Avage

  • Avita (Retin A)

  • Differin

  • Isotretinoin

  • Renova(Retin A)

  • Tazorac

  • Tazarotene

  • Tretinoin(Retin A)

Must be off/haven’t done for at least 7 days prior to waxing

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic) in face or body products,

  • Mild chemical peels

  • Oral or topical antibiotics

  • Salicilic acid

  • Any bleaching agents for hair (like upper lip) or skin (Hydraquinone, Trilumena)

  • Other agents like chemical depilatories such as Nair (used previously) or Benzoyl Peroxide (ProActive) can make your skin very sensitive

Other contraindications

  • Waxing cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing or if you have had a physician administered peel within the past year.

  • Avoid over exfoliating before waxing

  • If you have been tanning within the 48 hours of your appointment, or have any sunburn, wax cannot be performed

  • Varicose Veins: Doctors consent will be needed due to the vein being so close to the surface of the skin. Slight possibility the vein could rupture and cause bleeding.

  • Cold Sores (herpes simplex) A highly contagious blister normally found around lips of mouth. Usually clears up in around 2 weeks

  • Diabetes: The skin is slow to heal and may have poor circulation along with blood sugar levels may need monitoring.

    Epilepsy: As there is risk of fainting

    Haemophila Operations/Recent scar tissue– You would need to wait 6 months until you have waxing over scar tissue. This is so the natural healing process takes place as waxing could interfere with the healing process and might be more painful.

    Any contagious skin conditions due to cross infection.

    Brow microbladingwait at least 2 months

Waxing

  • Positive reaction to a patch or sensitivity test (allergy). Patch test 24 hours before procedure

  • Cysts (A cyst is a lump of the upper or lower eyelid caused by obstruction and inflammation of an oil gland of the eyelid - also known as a meibomian, tarsal ore granuloma cyst

  • Hordeola/Style/Styes (a small collection of puss/abscess on the eyelid)

  • Blepharitis (an ocular condition characterised by chronic inflammation of the eyelid)

  • Chemotherapy (cancer treatment)

  • Skin Disease, skin trauma, cuts, abrasions, burns and swelling in the immediate area

  • Weak eyelashes at therapist discretion on consultation (from over styling or product use)

  • Skin Disorders in the general eye area (Dermatitis, Xanthelasma & Syringoma)

  • Eye infections such as Impetigo or Conjunctivitis

  • Eye inflammation such as Uveitis

  • Recent operations around eyes, head or face or scar tissue in immediate areas •

  • Watery eyes

  • Hypersensitive skin/eyes

  • Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye)

  • Alopecia (loss of hair)

  • Trichotillomania (classified as an impulse control disorder and is the compulsive urge to pull out one’s own hair

  • Bells Palsy or any condition that makes closing or opening eyes difficult

  • Any disease/disorder that causes shaking, twitching or erratic movements

Lash Lift

Tinting

For lashes, they are the same as the contraindications for lash lifts

For brows:

  • Any sign of eczema, infection, cuts or scabbing in the brow area.

  • Use of acne medications within 10 days of service

  • Use of chemical exfoliants within 3 days of service

  • Any contagious skin condition present
